24/7 Access to Stroke Care in the Scottish Borders

Patients in the Borders who have suffered from a stroke are being let down and not given the same access to treatments as those in the central belt.

In the Stroke Improvement Plan, published in 2023, the SNP committed to “…expanding the national thrombectomy service and to ensure access to this treatment is as equitable as possible.”

And yet, in 2026, residents in the Borders must hope that if they have a stroke, then it happens on a Monday to Friday between 9am and 3pm – in order to arrive on the treatment table at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary in time.

I've now secured a meeting with the Scottish Government Minister for Public Health and Women's Health.

Ahead of this meeting, I want to hear directly from residents in the Borders who have suffered from a stroke or know someone who has, and their treatment experience 👇.
