Finally ScotRail has listened to the MSP for Ettrick, Roxburgh and Berwickshire and will increase the amount of services for the Scotland Vs England international Rugby Union match.
Rachael Hamilton MSP has repeatedly called for improvements to the service on days where demand would be considerably higher, such as when an international sporting fixture takes place. As a result, ScotRail have agreed to run a half-hourly service for most of the day when Scotland play England in the Calcutta Cup this Saturday.
Carriages will also be added to two of the last trains of the night – the 21.56 and 23.54 service.
This will be welcome relief for those travelling to Scotland this weekend who have had to endure an often overcrowded service on days that coincide with international sporting fixtures.
Alcohol on the service will be banned between Tweedbank and Edinburgh from 1130 to 1530, and between Edinburgh and Tweedbank from 1830 until the end of the day.
Rachael Hamilton MSP said: "Finally my calls for an improved service on days where demand is higher than normal have been listened to and ScotRail has acted and improved the service.
"I am delighted that there will be a half-hourly service most of the day. This is good news for passengers who will be travelling to Edinburgh on Saturday.
"This is the right decision and I happy that ScotRail are showing the Border Rail the attention it needs. The Calcutta Cup is always a fantastic match and now Borders fans are sure to arrive not only in style, but in comfort too."
