The local MP and MSP for the Borders recently met with the National Farmers Union Scotland (NFUS) to discuss the challenges facing the industry.
John Lamont MP and Rachael Hamilton MSP visited Ruletownhead Farm near Bonchester Bridge last week.
Borders MSP Rachael Hamilton said:
"It was very useful to meet with local farmers to hear their concerns and listen to how much their costs have risen in recent years.
"Many small businesses are under threat from Labour's Family Farm Tax and land managers are increasingly worried about the SNP's unworkable land reform proposals and excessive red tape in their capital grant scheme.
"In the Borders specifically, farmers are alarmed by cuts to college funding that may worsen the agricultural skills shortage and limit opportunities for young people.
"The SNP and Labour must reconsider their approach to farming in order to protect jobs, support small businesses, and ensure good quality local food is still widely available."
