The British Veterinary association (BVA) visited the Scottish Parliament.
Rachael Hamilton MSP met the BVA during their time in Parliament and listened to their issues and concerns.
The BVA’s main concern was the need for workforce planning post Brexit.
The BVA is the largest representative body for the veterinary profession in the UK and we speak up for vets on the issues that matter most. We promote evidence-led policy drawn from science and the expertise and experiences of our members working in all areas of the veterinary profession.
Rachael Hamilton MSP said: "It was good to meet the BVA and discuss their concerns in the Scottish Parliament. I am certainly supportive of their work in rural areas, like the Scottish Borders, and I will support their efforts to help our animals here.
"Of course it’s important that every voice is heard during the Brexit process and I will certainly make sure concerns over workforce planning are listened to.
"Agricultural livestock plays a vital role to the local economy in the Scottish Borders and we need a strong veterinary service with the skills to come to the agricultural communities aid, if need be.
"And we need a strong service to care for our poorly pets and be safe in the knowledge in that there is a service close by.
"It was especially good to see the Scottish Borders with representation from Galedin Veterinary practice."
