Rachael Hamilton MSP challenged the First Minister today over the SNP Government’s action over Storm Arwen.
The Borders parliamentarian criticised Nicola Sturgeon at First Minister’s Questions, for failing to acknowledge the extent of the damage for several days.
She cited elderly and vulnerable constituents who have experienced 6 days without power, as thousands of homes across the Borders were left without electricity after the storm brought high winds last Friday.
As of today, 600 homes were still left without power.
Mrs Hamilton visited Hownam on Monday to meet constituents who were out of power. She has been in regular contact with power, water and telecommunications companies, trying to find solutions to the issues brought about by the storm.
Constituents have been urged to contact Rachael Hamilton's office on 01573 224862 or Rachael.email@example.com if they are experiencing issues with power outages.
Rachael Hamilton MSP said:
“The First Minister has failed to see the urgency needed to reconnect Borders premises to power following Storm Arwen.
“I have been extremely busy responding to constituents who are rightly concerned about when the power will be restored.
“I am extremely concerned at the SNP Government’s shockingly slow response to this storm, this was apparent when I quizzed the Deputy First Minister on Tuesday.
“Once again Nicola Sturgeon has forgotten the Scottish Borders, if it had been the Central Belt, I am sure the sense of urgency would have been much greater”.
