John Lamont MP and Rachael Hamilton MSP visited the Morebattle Community Shop to show their support for the Morebattle Community shop in their final week of fundraising.
Residents in Morebattle are looking to raise £50,000 to fund the shop, in order to match funding from the Scottish Land Fund in order to purchase the shop facility.
The group has already secured £143,000 from the Scottish Land Fund, meaning funds raised through the share offer will be earmarked for working capital, match funding as well as refurbishing the premises, fittings and stock.
The Morebattle Community Shop are selling shares at £25 per share to become a member of Morebattle Community Shop Ltd.
The closing date for the share offer is the 13th October 2018.
John Lamont MP for Berwickshire, Roxburgh and Selkirk said:
“I congratulate the local residents behind this initiative for their remarkable efforts in raising the sum of money in shares that they have done to date.
“In their final week of fundraising, it is vitally important everyone gets behind the Morebattle community by purchasing shares.
“This is a fantastic shop, and really something that everyone in the community is very positive about.
“They have great plans to stock local produce in order to attract shoppers from further afield, as well as those in Morebattle, in order to make it a successful and profitable business”.
Rachael Hamilton MSP for Ettrick, Roxburgh and Berwickshire said:
“The Morebattle Community Shop is close to reaching their fundraising target, so I would encourage anyone who can, to support the shop by purchasing shares.
“The shop has a clear, positive vision of becoming a thriving and sustainable retail business providing local services, fresh food, a post office and employment.
“It is a wonderful local asset, and I believe it has a very bright future”.
