A report has been published stating that Scotland’s economic situation does not warrant it having a migration policy different to the rest of the UK.
The Migration Advisory Committee’s (MAC) study of immigration under EU free movement rules concluded that Scotland’s economy did not require a separate migration regime to meet our labour requirements.
The report highlighted the concerns from business and immigration experts about the calls to devolve immigration.
Moreover, it stated that any changes by devolved administrations would be a political one, not based on economics.
Rachael Hamilton MSP said:
“The grievance politics of the SNP have been exposed once again.
“Scotland doesn’t have wildly different economic needs compared to other parts of the UK, and its clear we don't need a separate policy.
“A separate immigration policy for Scotland would cause upheaval and more bureaucracy.
“Any attempt to create a different immigration system to the rest of the UK could risk causing serious problems at the border"
