Doddie Weir event

Rachael Hamilton MSP recently hosted a reception in the Scottish Parliament to champion the work of the charity set up by the late rugby legend Doddie Weir to find a cure for motor neurone disease (MND).

The Borders MSP welcomed guests from the world of sport and science to the event to celebrate the achievements of the My Name'5 Doddie Foundation, which has invested £19 million into treatments for MND since 2017.

Guests heard from Doddie's former teammate and the head coach of the Scotland rugby team, Gregor Townsend, plus neurological expert, Dr Bhuvaneish Selvaraj, from the Euan MacDonald Centre for MND Research.

The reception was also attended by the CEO of the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation, Nicola Roseman, and MND ambassadors including Mark Beaumont, John Jeffrey, Scott Hastings, and Eilidh Barbour.

Scottish Borders MSP Rachael Hamilton said: "I was delighted to host this reception which brought together MSPs, sporting legends, medical experts, volunteers, friends and family of Doddie to support the incredible work of the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation.

“Doddie’s legacy lives on through the inspiring work of the foundation and its unwavering commitment to finding a cure for this horrible disease.

"I was very pleased to do what I can to honour Doddie’s spirit by hosting this event in the Scottish Parliament.

“I’m committed to raising awareness and doing all I can to support the ongoing efforts in the fight against this devastating condition.

"Please give what you can to the foundation and get involved in their efforts by volunteering if you can too."
