Rachael Hamilton MSP met with ScotRail Managing Director Alex Hynes, in the Scottish Parliament to discuss improvements to the Borders Railway service.
Ms Hamilton requested to meet with ScotRail following months of delays, cancellations, lack of carriages and some of the worst performance figures in two decades.
In the meeting, Mr Hynes admitted that the poor performance of ScotRail, particularly in the run up to Christmas, was unacceptable and that the number of delays and cancellations are now decreasing.
Mr Hynes also explained that ScotRail are working to ensure that all peak time trains have a minimum of six carriages and off-peak have at least three.
Ms Hamilton was encouraged by the positivity of the meeting; nevertheless, she will continue to put pressure on both the SNP Government and ScotRail should performance and customer service slip again.
Ettrick, Roxburgh and Berwickshire MSP, Rachael Hamilton said:
“Meeting with Alex Hynes was a good opportunity to iron out the problems that many have faced over the past few months.
“Hardworking ScotRail staff bore the brunt of bad of anger from customers, trains were delayed and passengers were left stranded in either Tweedbank or Edinburgh on one of the busiest weekends before Christmas.
“I was glad he gave me reassurances that improvements were being made on the Waverley Line service, with more carriages during peak times and better reliability.
“As ever, I will always hold the SNP Government and ScotRail to account over the performance on our railways, because hardworking commuters and passengers deserve better”.
