Over 90,000 vulnerable pensioners in Scotland will receive a winter windfall of £140 off their fuel bills thanks to UK Government efforts working with energy firms to cut their costs.
Rachael Hamilton MSP, Shadow Cabinet Secretary for Social Security and Older People said:
“The UK Conservative Government has announced £350 million to help ensure older people can stay warm this winter.
“The Warm Home Discount Scheme will be extended until at least March 2022, reducing the pressures on low income and vulnerable customers.
“This funding will ensure that vulnerable people can reduce their bills, especially at a time when more of us are staying indoors due to the colder weather and Covid restrictions.
“If you receive the Guarantee Credit element of Pension Credit or you’re on a low income and meet your energy supplier’s criteria for the scheme, you may be eligible and I would urge Borderers to check”.
