Rachael Hamilton MSP met with John Stevenson MP for Carlisle in Westminster to discuss the Borderlands Deal.
The Ettrick, Roxburgh and Berwickshire MSP and the Carlisle MP spoke about the greater collaboration required between councils, devolved administrations and the UK Government in delivering a successful deal, in order to create long term employment and economic benefits.
The Borderlands Partnership brings together the five cross-border local authorities of Carlisle City Council, Cumbria County Council, Dumfries and Galloway Council, Northumberland County Council and Scottish Borders Council to promote the economic growth of the area that straddles the Scotland-England border.
Ettrick, Roxburgh and Berwickshire MSP, Rachael Hamilton said:
“It was fantastic to speak with John Stevenson on the issues affecting both of our constituencies along the Border.
“The Borderlands Deal is set to be transformative to the communities both north and south of the Border, and therefore it was important to meet my English counterparts to hear their feedback on the progress of the deal.
“What we need seeing continue, is the collaborative approach of all the councils in the region working closely together to ensure that nowhere is left behind.
“We have a real opportunity, thanks to the UK Government’s long track record in delivering successful city and region deals, to deliver long term benefits to both our constituencies”.
