Borders MSP Rachael Hamilton has joined Active Scotland in encouraging more women and girls to participate in sport this week.
Scottish Women and Girls in Sport Week will run from the 25th of October to the 1st of November this year, and aims to empower more women and girls to get involved with sports. This year marks the 5th anniversary of the initiative.
Regardless of sporting ability, this week will provide women and girls in the Borders with an opportunity to try something new, rediscover your passion for a sport you used to participate in, or carry on enjoying the sports you love.
Borders sport and leisure charity, Live Borders, describes this week as a chance to shine a light on the importance of sport and physical activity in supporting health and wellbeing for women and girls. It is also an opportunity to celebrate women’s sport in Scotland, and to be inspired by the achievements of female athletes across the country.
Scottish Conservative MSP for Ettrick, Roxburgh and Berwickshire Rachael Hamilton said:
“Scottish Women and Girls in Sport week is a great initiative that presents us with a chance to make the most of the sporting opportunities available to us right here on our doorstep in the Borders. Whether it gives us a bit of motivation to get out for a jog with a club, or encourages us to sign up to a local sports team, I am pleased to see that so many women and girls have been empowered and motivated over the last 5 years. #SheCanSheWill
“No matter what your level of sporting ability may be, Women and Girls in Sports Week is a fantastic opportunity to get involved in all kinds of sports. The overarching aim is to help us to lead healthier, more active lives in a way that suits us best. More importantly, it gives us the opportunity to have some fun and meet new friends whilst doing it.”
