The 18th December saw the third annual Great British Christmas Bake Off competition in Holyrood.
The event was sponsored by Rachael Hamilton MSP and judged by Philippa Lee, Deputy Lieutenant of Roxburgh, Ettrick & Lauderdale and Cindy Webster, of Cindy Webster Cooks.
Cindy Webster has over 30 years’ experience in finding staff for catering jobs, ranging from birthdays to fishing lodge catering.
Each office was asked to contribute a cake to be judged by the special judges.
Judging was based on the criteria of presentation, taste and texture. The overall winner was Lynn Crozier of Alexander Stewart MSP’s office with her reindeer biscuits.
Other entrants included a spiced orange bauble cake, a chocolate Christmas pudding and Venetian Christmas cookies from Ms Hamilton’s Intern, Tolly Colby.
At the end of the judging contestants were invited to display their cakes and for others to purchase slices for a donation to the Scottish Cyrenians.
Ettrick, Roxburgh and Berwickshire MSP, Rachael Hamilton said:
“What a fantastic range of entries this year, my colleagues are all definitely star bakers!
“This is what Christmas is about, bringing people together, having a bit of fun and raising money for a good cause.
“I was glad to have two astute judges, Cindy and Philippa to help me, their eye for detail and discerning taste meant we had a well-deserved winner!”
