Atrial Fibrillation (AF) is one the most common types of irregular heartbeat, impacting 1,724 diagnosed in the Scottish Borders.
The British Heart Foundation (BHF) has called for more support to help those who suffer from the condition. AF increases the risk of stroke by five times - the most common cause of death and leading cause of disability in Scotland.
The BHF wants to see improvements made to help those with condition and also to find those who are undiagnosed.
Local MSP, Rachael Hamilton, supports the initiative that encourages the implementation of specialised AF services to facilitate accurate diagnosis and raise awareness.
Rachael Hamilton MSP said: "I very much support the BHF’s initiative that will help 1,724 diagnosed with Atrial Fibrillation in the Borders and perhaps the many more who are undiagnosed.
"AF is a condition that kills. Any move that will help with diagnosis and raise awareness is a worthy one.
"I will help the BHF in any way I can and look forward to working with the BHF on this important issue."
