Latest ScotRail figures for November and December show that more than half of trains arriving and departing Tweedbank station were late.
Only 49.4% of trains arrived within a minute of their booked arrival time. Further to this, nearly 15% of trains arrived or departed more than 5 minutes late.
Rachael Hamilton MSP has repeatedly criticised the SNP Government and ScotRail over the poor performance and punctuality of services on the Borders Railway.
Just before Christmas, during one of 2018’s worst weekends of rail disruption, Ms Hamilton demanded that the Cabinet Secretary for Transport, Michael Matheson MSP acted urgently and held ScotRail to account.
She criticised the SNP for their decision to waive the performance targets for ScotRail, which ultimately recorded and monitored the performance of the service.
Ms Hamilton has written to Alex Hynes, Managing Director of ScotRail, to arrange an urgent meeting to discuss the severity of the ongoing issue.
Ettrick, Roxburgh and Berwickshire MSP, Rachael Hamilton said:
“Yet another set of figures highlight the abysmal performance of ScotRail on the Waverley Line.
“Commuters and shoppers over Christmas saw a weekend of significant disruption due to the poor implementation of the new timetable, and it was Borderers that bore the brunt.
“We see little improvement and things don’t look like they are improving anytime soon.
“I hope that by arranging a meeting with the boss of ScotRail, I can go direct to him and explain that they cannot continue like this”
