New figures have revealed that the number of GP practices in NHS Borders has decreased under the SNP.
The statistics from ISD show that NHS Borders has lost two practices since 2008.
The figures have emerged after recent warnings from the Royal College of General Practitioners that Scotland could be short of more than 800 family doctors by 2021.
Additionally, practice lists sizes have increased by 12%. Back in 2008, the average Borders practice list totalled 4633 people; the figure now stands at 5170.
Ms Hamilton has repeatedly raised the issue of a shortage of GPs and expanding practice lists in the Scottish Parliament.
In response to the figures, Ettrick, Roxburgh and Berwickshire MSP, Rachael Hamilton said:
“The lack of GP practices directly affects waiting times in the Borders and this can then force people into Accident and Emergency, putting pressure on these already stretched services.
“Under the decisions of Nicola Sturgeon and the SNP we’ve seen a lost decade to try to fix the issues facing our GP’s.
“With NHS Borders at Stage Four, 11 years of mismanagement of our NHS by the SNP and the increasing tax divergence north of the Border, it is now taking its toll”.
