Rachael Hamilton MSP is backing the Small Business Saturday campaign to support local independents across the Borders.
Small Business Saturday, which returns on 4th December, celebrates small business success and encourages consumers to 'shop local' and to support businesses in their communities.
This year it is calling on the nation to share a ‘big thank you’ with small firms to recognise their vital role throughout the pandemic.
Mrs Hamilton is joining the campaign’s nationwide effort to get behind small businesses and support the high street by buying local this Christmas.
Last year the campaign achieved record-breaking success and saw an estimated £1.1 billion spent with small businesses across the UK on the day.
The local MSP for is also backing the campaign’s call for the public and communities to show their thanks for the vital role that small businesses played throughout the pandemic.
Rachael Hamilton MSP said:
“In the run up to Small Business Saturday, it is vital we continue to support our local shops and businesses who have done a sterling job throughout the pandemic.
“Across the Borders, small retailers are the backbone of our high street, and offer unique and wonderful gifts this Christmas.
“I have repeatedly called on the SNP Government to provide reform of business rates and further support for our high streets.
“They have persevered through multiple lockdowns and sets of restrictions, and the SNP Government must offer support in return.
“Buying local really is the best way to support our local economy and reduce our carbon footprint too”.
Michelle Ovens CBE, Director, Small Business Saturday UK said:
“Small Business Saturday’s mission to support and celebrate small businesses has never been more important, as small firms face considerable challenges to get back on their feet.
“Support from the public can make a huge impact in helping these small, independent firms who are at the heart of our communities and have been vital to getting us through the pandemic.
“It’s time to show our thanks and support back to them for the amazing contribution they make to our nation.”
