Thank you to everyone who completed my 60 Second Resident Survey which was included in my annual report this year.

The number of responses I received was fantastic, with over 500 residents taking the time to highlight the issues that are most important to them.

NHS Borders fails to provide a balanced budget

Directors and executives at NHS Borders have failed to approve a balanced financial position at a public board meeting this week.

NHS Borders had been set to agree an updated financial plan at their public board meeting on the 4th of April.

SNP criticised for closure of Jedburgh information centre

SNP agency Visit Scotland announced on Wednesday they would close all 25 visitor information centres across Scotland, including the Jedburgh location.

This is a bitter blow for local businesses and towns that are working hard to attract more tourists.

The Wildlife Management and Muirburn Bill

Today, the SNP's Wildlife Management and Muirburn Bill was passed in the Scottish Parliament. 

The SNP-Green government has once again shown their contempt for rural Scotland with the passing of this bill.

Three wins for Borders businesses in Scottish rural awards 

Borders businesses won big in the 2024 Scottish Countryside Alliance awards, dubbed the ‘rural Oscars’ by organisers.

The Gordon Arms won best pub, Foston’s Fine Meats in Duns won the award for best butcher and Lauder’s Black Bull won best local food and drink. 

Water prices set to rise in Scotland

Business Stream recently wrote to customers to inform them of higher 2024/2025 charges. 

They said: “From 1 April 2024, the wholesale charge for water and sewerage services will increase by 8.8 per cent.”
